Dirty Chai Martini

Your chai latte just got a Saturday night makeover. The dirty chai martini is the drink you didn’t know you needed—a boldly spiced, espresso-spiked cocktail that bridges the gap between your morning ritual and your evening plans. This is the kind of drink that makes people ask for the recipe before they’ve even finished the glass.

Total Time:15 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tsp. loose chai tea
  • 1/4 tsp. allspice
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cardamom
  • 1/4 tsp. ground ginger
  • 2 oz. vodka
  • 1 oz. espresso
  • 1/2 oz. Kahlúa
  • Ground cinnamon and star anise, for serving

Directions

Step 1

In a medium pot over medium-high heat, bring sugar, water, tea, allspice, cardamom, and ginger to a boil. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a medium heatproof bowl or container. Let cool.

Step 2

In a cocktail shaker, combine vodka, espresso, Kahlúa, and 1 1/2 oz. chai syrup. Fill shaker with ice, cover, and vigorously shake until outside of shaker is very frosty, about 20 seconds.

Step 3

Strain into a martini glass. Dust with cinnamon, then garnish with star anise.
