Total: 15 mins
Serves 6–8

Ingredients

  • 1 Granny Smith apple, thinly sliced
  • 1 Honeycrisp apple, thinly sliced
  • 1 orange, thinly sliced
  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced
  • 1 bottle (750ml) dry white wine, chilled
  • 2 cups (about 475ml) apple cider, chilled
  • 1 can (12oz/approx. 355ml) ginger beer, chilled
  • 3–4 cinnamon sticks

Method

  1. Add the fruit. Put the sliced apples, orange and lemon into a large jug or pitcher.
  2. Pour in the drinks. Add the chilled wine, apple cider and ginger beer.
  3. Finish and serve. Pop in the cinnamon sticks, give everything a good stir and pour into glasses, adding some fruit to each.

Tips

  • Pick a dry wine. Crisp whites like Sauvignon Blanc, Albariño or Muscadet balance the sweet cider. Dry Prosecco works too, for some fizz.
  • Mix your apples. Using one tart green apple and one sweet red apple gives the best flavour and looks lovely in the jug. Gala is a good swap.
  • Milder option: swap the ginger beer for ginger ale. It’s sweeter, so go for an extra-dry wine.
  • Serve it cold. Chill all the drinks beforehand, or add ice just before serving so it doesn’t water down.
