Tom and Jerry Batter

This Tom and Jerry batter recipe is a favorite holiday drink topping in my family. The batter makes an excellent topping for both alcoholic cocktails, as well as hot cocoa, eggnog, or warm milk for the kids. The batter can be frozen or kept in the refrigerator for several weeks.

Total Time:30 mins
Yield:12 cups

Ingredients

  • 12 large eggs, separated, divided
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3 pounds confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 pound butter, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice

Directions

Step1

Beat egg whites and salt in a large bowl until stiff peaks form. Lift beater straight up: egg whites should form stiff peaks that hold their shape.

Step 2

Beat egg yolks in a separate large bowl.

Step 3

Beat confectioners’ sugar and butter together in a third large bowl until light and fluffy; beat in egg yolks and vanilla. Stir in nutmeg, cloves, allspice, and egg whites until well blended.

Step 4

Scoop batter onto drink of choice.

Note

This recipe contains raw egg. We recommend that young children, older adults, and people who are pregnant or immunocompromised do not consume raw egg.
