Recipe information

  • Yield4 servings

Ingredients

1 (1-inch) piece ginger

2 (2-inch) pieces cinnamon stick

5 green cardamom pods

5 whole cloves

1 teaspoon black peppercorns

2 cups cold water

3 tablespoons loose black tea (or 4 black tea bags)

3 tablespoons granulated sugar, plus more as needed

2 cups whole milk

Preparation

  1. Crush the ginger with the bottom of a heavy pot or the blunt edge of a knife and set aside. Place the cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, and peppercorns in a mortar and crush with a pestle until coarsely ground (or crush on a countertop or on a cutting board with the bottom of a heavy pot).
  2. Transfer the spices to a medium saucepan set over medium heat and cook, stirring, until very fragrant, about 1 minute.
  3. Add the ginger, water, tea, and sugar and increase the heat to high. Once bubbles form around the edge, immediately reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the milk and let it cook for just 1 minute to warm the milk, then turn off the heat.
  5. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a teapot, pitcher, or straight into tea mugs.

Overnight Cinnamon Roll Tres Leches Cake

Overnight Cinnamon Roll Tres Leches Cake

Ingredients:

1can (17.5 oz) Pillsbury™ Grands!™ refrigerated cinnamon rolls
3/4cup canned sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated)
3/4cup evaporated milk
1/2cup whole milk
1 1/2cups heavy whipping cream
1teaspoon vanilla
1/8teaspoon ground cinnamon
Fresh sliced strawberries, if desired

Instructions:

1-Bake cinnamon rolls as directed on package; cool completely, about 20 minutes. Refrigerate icing for later use. Cut each cinnamon roll in half horizontally. In 8-inch (2-quart) glass baking dish, place 4 of the cinnamon roll halves, cut sides up, in single layer.
2-In medium bowl, mix condensed milk, evaporated milk and whole milk until combined. Pour half of the mixture evenly over cinnamon roll layer. Using end of wooden spoon, poke holes in cinnamon rolls.
3-Place 4 cinnamon roll halves to cover first layer, cut sides up. Cut remaining cinnamon roll halves into smaller pieces to fill empty spots in dish. Pour remaining milk mixture on top, poking more holes in cinnamon rolls.
4-Cover with plastic wrap, pressing down firmly on cinnamon rolls to soak as much milk mixture as possible. Refrigerate at least 8 hours or overnight, until chilled and most of the liquid has been absorbed into cinnamon rolls (when cutting to serve, some liquid may remain in bottom of dish).
5-In chilled large bowl, beat whipping cream and vanilla with electric mixer on high speed just until soft peaks form. Beat in icing until blended. Spread whipped cream on top of soaked cinnamon roll mixture. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Serve with strawberries. Store covered in refrigerator.
