It is likely that your family will not eat bananas that are too ripe, and many people simply throw out this banana when it begins to show black spots. Finding an alternative to throwing out old bananas can help you to find a new use for bananas. There are many things you can do with the bananas that your family will not eat, and this will allow you to open up some great new recipes for bananas that do not require them to be fresh, and bright yellow.

A banana cake is often a very moist cake that can please a crowd. A recipe for banana cake require three bananas and these can be over ripe. You will need a 13×9 inch baking pan in order to get started. This baking pan will need to be greased with butter, or cooking spray. Next, the pan will need to have a coating of flour. It is also possible to use smaller pans to make a layered cake if you desire. After you grease and flour your pan, you will want to make sure that you begin preheating your oven to 350 degrees.

The next item you will need is a mixing bowl. In this mixing bowl you will place 2 1/4 cups of flour. The next dry ingredient is sugar, and you will add 1 1/2 cups of sugar to the dry mixture, and 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder. Add 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and just 1/2 teaspoon of salt. You will want to take a second and mix all of your dry ingredients by hand which should be very easy to incorporate. Once all of your dry ingredients are incorporated, you will be ready to add all of the wet ingredients.

You will add 1 cup of your ripe bananas and they need to be mashed. Around 3 regular size bananas mashed will make a cup for this recipe. You will also add 3/4 cup of buttermilk. Next add 1/2 cup of shortening to the mixture also and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Once you have added all of the wet ingredients, you will need to use a mixer on low speed to incorporate all of your ingredients. After all of the ingredients are combined, you will need to add 2 regular sized eggs to the mix. You will use the mixer to beat all ingredients on medium speed for around 2 minutes.

You will pour all ingredients into the pan that was prepared earlier. You will place this pan in the preheated oven and let it bake until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. This recipe often takes around 35 minutes to be complete. Once the cake is complete, it will need to cool. You can frost with your favorite frosting, and you are ready to enjoy your cake.
