Mint Julep

Mint Julep

If you only think of mint juleps when it’s Kentucky Derby season, I think that’s a crying (neighing?) shame! Not only does the classic frosty cup and minty flavor provide a cooling freshness on a hot day, but it’s also one of the best low-effort cocktails out there. It’s only 3 ingredients (if you don’t count ice), and the prep couldn’t be simpler.

Prep Time:3 mins
Total Time:5 mins
Yields:1

Ingredients

  • 1/2 oz. store-bought or homemade simple syrup
  • Fresh mint leaves, plus sprig for garnish
  • 2 oz. bourbon
  • Crushed ice

Directions

Step 1

Into a tin or other tall glass, pour simple syrup. Add mint leaves, then thoroughly muddle until leaves are broken up, their oils are released, and mixture is fragrant.

Step 2

Pour in bourbon and gently stir to combine.

Step 3

Pack glass with crushed ice. Garnish with mint sprig.

What To Serve With A Mint Julep

  • Pimento Cheese: Affectionately known as the “caviar of the South,” pimento cheese is a Southern party staple.
  • Kentucky Hot Brown Sliders: Just like the OG version, these are piled high with turkey breast, cheese sauce, crispy bacon, and juicy slices of tomato, but made extra shareable with slider buns.
  • Bourbon Peach Pie: Double-down on the bourbon vibes by serving this sweet pie alongside your juleps.
